Samsung Galaxy S10e vs Iphone Xr: Battle of the “budget” flagships.

Iphone Xr is arguably the most popular Iphone right now and it deserve that. For $75 it is the cheapest new Iphone one can buy. Samsung’s new Galaxy S10e is also one of the best android phone one can buy. So if you are in the market for a new phone and are not willing to spend $1000 for a smartphone, which one of these is the better choice.

First of all hardware. Both phones are made out of aluminum and glass. while the S10e is ip68 water and dust resistance, Iphone Xr is only rated ip67. Not a huge difference, but the S10e will be more durable in the long run. Moreover, the S10e feature the headphone jack, while the Xr does not. This will come to personal preference and need, with the rise of bluetooth headphone, many people don’t use the headphone jack. But if you do, then the S10e will deliver. Moving on to the SOC, S10e comes with SD 855/ exynos 9820, while the Xr features the a12 bionic ship. Both phones are fast and will be sufficient for day to day use for most. S10e comes with 6gb Ram, but can be upgraded to 8gb, on the other hand, Xr only comes with 3gb of ram. While 3gb of RAM seems small, Apple’s optimization means it’s enough for even the high demanding app

While hardware wise, both phones are pretty equal, Samsung does have an edge when it comes to cameras. S10e features two rear cameras, wide and ultra-wide, while Xr only has a single rear camera, wide. Both phones take great photos and most people will not be disappointed. While S10e’s pictures are a little more saturated and social media related, the Xr takes more true to life picture. The picture style will come to personal preference, but both phones will not disappoint anyone. Moving on to selfie cameras, both phones have one selfie camera and will again take great photos.

When it comes to screen, there is no question, the S10e has a better screen. featuring the new dynamic amoled with with 1080p resolution. Iphone Xr, on the other hand, come with a sub 1080p resolution LCD. While not a bad display, when compared to the S10e, there is no competition, S10e just has a far better display. Moving on to screen sizes, S10e comes with a 5.8in display, while the Xr comes with a 6.1in display. This will come to personal preferences, those who prefer a larger display will go for the Xr and vise-versa.

lastly, the software and battery life. Both phones are fast and come with latest from both companies, IOS 12 on Xr or ONE UI on Android pie. Here everything comes to personal preference, and for some the software might be the sole reason to go for one over the other. When it comes to battery life, both phone should be able to last all day, but the Xr tops it over the S10e. With a low resolution LCD panel, the Iphone Xr is currently the battery champ Iphone. This doesn’t mean that S10e has a bad battery life compared to the Xr, combined with android pie and a more efficient SOC, S10e should be able to last the same time as the Xr.

In conclusion, both phones are great and one will not be disappointed getting either. For those already in the Apple ecosystem, the Iphone Xr is a no brainer, but if one has the ability to choose between the two, Samsung Galaxy S10e is the better choice as it offers the most bang for the buck of the two “Budget” Flagships.
